Summer on the Bay!

JOYCE and JACK LA MANTIA'S SCHNAUZER

(not on the waterboard!)

July 23, 2010

We're getting close to opening the park! The final fencing and gates will likely be in place by the end of the month. Park orientation and grand opening details are being finalized by the board at this time. Dates for the opening are as follows: September 7 and 9, 3 to 5 p.m. are set aside for membership orientation, September 8 at 4 p.m. is a Get Acquainted with Your Park and an opportunity to become a member. Our Grand Opening will be held on September 10 at 4:00, specifics of the events will be finalized in the next few weeks. After the grand opening, the combination to the gate will be given to each member. Please go to the ORIENTATION link for details.

For those of you who are new to the website or might be unaware, the official name of the park is “Rusty’s Place” named after the prized Rottweiler that Nancie and I owned. We were allowed to name the park as part of a major financial contribution to the park, and we would be most honored to offer a few words about Rusty at the Grand Opening.

The board meeting was held on July 22 and it was with pleasure that I reported that our finances are in excellent shape as I turn the books over to our new treasurer, Cheryl Heinecke. We should have enough money after the Shaggy Chic Super Sale to have a healthy reserve for contingencies in the coming year.

At this point in time, we have 16 member families with a total of 22 dogs with 12 small and 10 large dogs. After the park is completed at the end of August, we anticipate more members coming on board. Please contact Sue Seitz if you would like to become a member at this time.

The board has agreed to carry both general liability and directors and officers liability insurance to protect our park itself as well as the community members who agree to serve on its board.

Our fundraising chair would like to again remind the community that the Shaggy Chic Super Sale is just two months away — September 25. Please ccontact either Nancie Guido (3873) or Eileen Schaefer (2699) to let them know you have donations. This is a great way to clean out those cupboards, closets, garages and back basements. Used, clean clothing sold very well at the last sale and we are anticipating a very successful event this second year. All unsold items will be donated to Branches of Monroe in Madisonville, the local women's shelter.

Memorial brick sales are doing well. To date, we have sold 23. Click on the link above to place your order. After the park is up and running, please come by for a look at the pathway we have designed going into the park.

We plan to ask the CAI board for an acceleration to do more landscaping, especially shade trees. These will be planted in the fall after the heat spells are over. Final approval on the Rusty's Place marker will also be submitted at the same time. Again, I would like to thank all the participants in make “Rusty’s Place” a reality.
