MARILYN & GARY CONSORTO'S COCKER SPANIELS

June 20, 2010
It’s already feeling like the dog days of summer. There’s a timely article on dealing with heat stroke for our dogs (click HERE for the article). We're watching the grass grow and anticipating the first mowing of the park.
Our Memorial Day barbeque was a huge success! The park netted another $1400 plus “Hugs for Our Soldiers” collected $260 from individual contributions and $120 from splitting the liquor sales!. Thanks goes out to Sue and John Seitz, Gail Noble, Kathy Ecklund, Cathy Barrett, Diane Fitzsimmons, Cheryl and Fred Heinecke, Regina Harnett and Leslie Phillips, plus all the other volunteers and member support for ensuring the event was another roaring success for our park. The Memorial Day barbeque is shaping up to be a much-anticipated annual event for all of Rarity Bay. |
We were reminded this last month of how much the community enjoyed our calendar contest last year - it was our single top money-making fundraiser. There was a request to do it again this year. Since the park construction has necessarily been on the front burner at this time and our fundraising events have been finalized for the year, we'll revisit the events in which our membership would like to participate in the coming year. Please come back to appreciate our calendar dogs on the president’s letter page from here until the end of the year as we feature our 2010 winners.
Just a reminder, the Shaggy Chic Super Sale is still on schedule for September 25. Since last year’s event was such a success, we are looking for another repeat this year. Please set aside all those items you don’t want or need. On a side note, we are still making money from items that were donated last year – two beautiful watercolor paintings set aside by last year’s event chair for individual sale were just purchased by Anita Lambert and Joe/Lois Cockrum on June 19 at the party for combined neighborhoods 14 and 15 called the Outer Banks Party of Rarity Bay. Both paintings fit the theme and to our delight brought in another $500 towards the Dog Park.
The park construction is moving along under Jack Wright’s leadership. Due to the ever changing East Tennessee weather, frankly we have had challenges with the newly planted grass. The fencing is due to be completed in late June or early July and park opening is still planned for August. Please stay tuned.
We now have a new Treasurer. Cheryl Heinecke has graciously volunteered to fill this position. Welcome Cheryl.
Our condolences go out to Susan and Sam Kalush on the loss of their beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog, Max, earlier this month. We all know how hard it is to lose a beloved companion and our thoughts go out to them.
Michael Guido, President
Dog Park of Rarity Bay
P.S. We are taking orders for bricks that will be on the pathway into the park and encourage you to buy a brick to become a integral part of our park.
Bricks are $50 each and profits will help fund park ameneties. Please use our Online Brick Order Form or contact Sue Seitz for further information.
